What Causes Intermittent Pain In Left Side Of Chest And Hot Flashes?

I am 60 + and since last sunday have an ocassional sharp pain on the left side of my chest on the rib cage, it is more noticable when I take a hot flash, I went to the doctor and she thinks it may be caused by the highatale hernia I have. This does not feel right. Can you make a suggestion
