What Causes Intermittent Pain In The Right Side Of Abdomen?

Hello there, I have this pain on my Right side in line with my belly button that often comes and goes. I have been to hospital had a CT scan as they thought it was my appendix although they said they are normal and blood test came back normal. They told me I could be constipated as the CT scan showed more poo then normal in there. I was on colyx with Senna for 3 days but am now on day 5 and still feeling the pain. What could this be??

Hello,

It is good to know that your CT scan reports are normal and there is no appendicitis. Since you have history of pain in the right side of the abdomen it could be due to biliary colic. Other medical conditions that can cause similar symptoms are gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) or IBS.

You are suggested to take antacids and PPI's for relieve. Since the CT scan shows constipation, take plenty of water, fiber, stool softener, laxatives and the prescribed medicines so that you are relieved of the discomfort. Avoid sedentary lifestyle, stay active. Manage stress and never hold-in your stool.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
