What Causes Intermittent Pain In Upper Abdomen And Back?
Hello, I have been having left upper back pain intermittently for approximately 4 weeks. Additionally, I have been experiencing upper abdominal pain/pressure intermittently for about 3 weeks. The abdominal discomfort is sometimes one-sided, other times is both sides. I seem to be a little tender just under the breastbone. No associated nausea or vomiting. I also seem to be belching more frequently. Was seen in ER and told I have myofascial strain of back and GERD. Started taking Prilosec 40 mg but have seen no improvement with symptoms. My lab work was normal except for slightly elevated platelet count. I have also occasionally felt a pulsation just under left rib cage. I have CT scan scheduled. I m very anxious about the results. What are your thoughts?
You have been diagnosed with myofascial pain and have history of GERD. You already have a CT scan scheduled. Myofascial pain gets worse with activity or stress. Stay comfortable and avoid constipation. Avoid addictions if any. Heat therapy and warm compress will give a lot of relieve. You can take hot water bag. You are suggested to take Pan- 40 (Pantoprazole) daily. Take Acetaminophen (Tylenol) or Calpol (paracetamol) after food for relief. Take vitamin B tonic or capsules daily.
MPS is effectively treated with stretch exercises and physical therapy but it should be done under a therapist as sometimes pain may get acute and intolerable. However such pain can also be caused by acute pancreatitis, gall stones, IBS, stomach ulcer, gastrointestinal diseases, etc. Get CT / MRI and other investigations done. Get treated at the earliest.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
