What Causes Intermittent Pain On Left Underside Of Rib Cage And Stomach?

I have had intermittent pain on the left side under my rib cage and also on the right side in the upper mid region by stomach for many months now. Can gallbladder cause left side and right side pain. It doesn't always happen after I eat and sometimes it feels like sharp stabbing (or pin pricking) pain. No nausea
