What Causes Intermittent Pain Under The Right Rib Cage?

Periodic sharp pain under right rib cage in area of liver. Comes and goes. May have on and off a couple days and then not again for several weeks or more. Was told once I have a somewhat fatty liver. Do not drink alcohol regularly, maybe to drinks/week or less. Do eat fried foods, like wings sometimes but generally eat a pretty healthy diet. 70 years old and in pretty good shape for my age. Most people guess my age in low to mid 60s. Physically active but about 15+ lbs over my best weight when younger.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Fatty liver may be a reason for right upper quadrant abdominal pain. Another possibility is cholecystitis. You should do a total blood count and liver chemistry and also an ultrasound to determine diagnosis and check possible treatments.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
