What Causes Intermittent Sharp Pain In The Thigh Upon Movement?

I have a sharp pain in my left thigh, intermittent (comes and goes in just a few seconds), stabbing, brought on by movement and position, relieved by rest. I tweaked my back a few weeks ago which then developed into sciatica which lasted about 10 days, but has subsided. This pain is new and started yesterday. Thigh is not swollen or hot to touch.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM.
Thanks for putting your query over here.
Sciatica can be accompanied by such sharp pain radiating to legs due to nerve affection.
If I were your treating doctor,I would recommend,
-Prophylactic doses of vitamin B12 supplements as it helps in protecting nerve from further damage
-Avoid bending at your waist. For e.g. you can bend by bending at your knees instead of at waist to pick something from ground.
-Do back muscles relaxation and strengthening exercises and yoga. You can consult physiotherapist for physical therapy and diathermy.
-Avoid working/sitting/sleeping in abnormal postired.Your lower back should be always supported while sitting in chair.
-Also get yourself checked for other medical condition like diabetes mellitus.
If still symptoms persists or worsen, you need to visit orthopaedician as certain investigations like MRI spine will be needed for further management.
Hope this information helps.
Thanks and regards.
