What Causes Intermittent Stiffness In Hands And Knuckle Pain In Index Finger?
For the past two years I have awoken with stiffness in my hands, and from time to time slight pain in my index finger knuckles. Also from time to time the muscles or ligaments in my arms freeze up causing minor discomfort and my fingers stiffening as a result. What might be causing this? I am able to work through this stiffness and freezing up by normal movement of my hands and arms afterward.
Intermittent stiffness in hands and knuckle pain in index finger can be part of underlying fibromyalgia episodes or arthritis via immune related disorders. In my clinic, I do recommend basic lab tests with X-ray of the hands to find out any abnormal pathology underlying to guide the management accordingly. Primary relief factors would be: - Heating pad application - Physiotherapy of active and passive stretch of fingers flexion and extension of wrists joints - Supportive medications for pain relief as per the need - Control of blood sugar and body weight
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
