What Causes Intermittent Twitches On Left Side Of The Face?
Hello - i have been getting random twitches on my face, left side mainly. It started in my eye and has now moved to more on my cheek bone. I am currently suffering from a very stiff neck and shoulders and need to go to the physio - but could this be affecting my face?
As per your complain it seems that the symptoms of muscle spasms on one side of the face seems to be due to Hemifacial Spasms and occurs commonly due to disorders or disturbances associated with Facial Nerve that is seventh cranial nerve and supplies muscles of face.. Any compression caused by a major artery or any tumor or other causes like Viral infiltration of the nerve or traumatic injury can cause the following symptoms.. As due to functional disturbance in the faical nerve there is irregular firing of impulses leading to twitching or spasms.. Other causes can be Nutritional Deficiency like Vitamin B12 deficiencies, electrolyte imbalance etc. I would suggest you to consult a Neurophysician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like MRI scan, Electromyogram, Nerve conduction velocity can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly.. You can be given medication like Carbamazepine, Phenytoin while treatments like Botox injection or surgical correction of compressed nerve root can be done..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
