What Causes Intermittent Vaginal Bleeding After Inserting Misoprostol?

Hi, my wife has taken mifeprin 1 tablet orally morning at 20.05.2015 (which is 8 days obove from LMP) and 2 tablet of misoprostal on 21.05.2015 on morning and one tablet inserted vaginally in the evening then bleeding starts. this bleeding remains upto 28.05.2015. but bleeding again started on yesterday night i.e 2.06.2015 (after 4 days break). Now please advice what i should do in case the bleeding donot stop. Thanks

Hi,

Mifepristone is antiprogestational steroid used mainly to terminate pregnancy. This inhibits the hormone progesterone which helps in the growth of the pregnancy. It is used along with Misoprostol to terminate pregnancy medically.

After oral medication and bleeding, one should visit the gynaecologist to confirm complete expulsion of the embryonic tissue from the uterus. It can be confirmed by ultrasound abdomen.

If there is doubt that there is remains, another dose of Misoprostol should administered and check after seven days to confirm the status of expulsion.

Surgical intervention is needed, if there are remnants of the implanted tissue to avoid any untoward reactions to the mother. Consult a Gynaecologist to confirm termination of pregnancy.
