What Causes Intermittent Vomiting And Abdominal Discomfort After Eating?
My Mom is 78 years old. 3 nights ago, she ate some watermelon which was in the fridge for a while. In the middle of the night she woke up an vomited. This reoccurred 3 more times through the night. In the morning, her heart rate was 120 bpm at rest. Went to a walk in clinic. Doc said rest, drink fluids and should be fine in a few days. This morning, she woke up and her abdomen is distended creating discomfort. Heart rate and BP normal. Hasn t eaten in three days. Still can t seem to hold anything down. Can food poisoning last this long?
As per your query, you have symptoms of intermittent vomiting and abdominal discomfort after eating which seems to be due to acute gastroenteritis.
Need not to panic at all. I would suggest you start treatment with a combination of fluoroquinolones and ornidazole. Take banana on a daily basis and light food. Drink plenty of fluids to rehydrate her. Visit gastroenterologist once and get it examined. You should go for blood tests as well and start treatment after proper examination. You should give Ibuprofen to a child along with proton pump inhibitors as well. I would suggest you take antiemetic like domperidone and ranitidine for gastritis. Avoid giving any sharp and spicy food.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
