What Causes Intermittent Warm Sensation In Foot With Leg Cramps?

My 47 year old called me this evening to tell me she has been experiencing an extremely hot sensation on the top of her right foot. Not constant, but intermittently throughout the day. She even thought she had spilled something hot on her foot, but that didn t occur. I checked out phlebitis thinking that might be it. there doesn t appear to be any redness in the area. She has been awakened with leg cramps in the right leg the last couple of nights, also. Thoughts?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible that the pain may be related to neuralgia which is nerve related pain.

This can cause abnormal sensations such as the hot sensation that was mentioned.
It can also be associated with leg cramps as well.

Neuralgia can be temporary or permanent and there are different possible causes such as: (A) vitamin b12 or folate deficiency
(b)Diabetes
(C) trauma to the nerves in the area
(d)side effect of medication
(E)liver or kidney disease
(f)nerve related diseases such as ms, stroke
(g)exposure to toxins
(h)idiopathic- cause not known
(I)infection

If it continues, bloods can be done to check for infection, diabetes, vitamin levels , kidney or liver disease

I hope this helps
