Hi there, I m six months pregnant, have Crohn s disease (Managed and in full remission) and sometimes when I m pooping, I have internal gas sounds, sometimes that are really loud. I ve had plenty of gas in my life so I know what external gas or farts sound like but this is really different. It s as if I m farting inside my intestines. Is this normal? Is there anything to worry about? Thanks
Farting or gas formation is a normal phenomenon for human beings. Normal human being produces,12-14 times farts, even if he does not feel gas inside. For some up to 25 times per day may be normal. During pregnancy, due to more progesterone, muscles of body are relaxed, including muscles of digestive tract.
This result in slow movements of food thru intestine and a feeling of bloating and flatulence inside the body. This is generally very much normal during pregnancy. However, if the problem is disturbing you more, then you are advised to see your doctor and treatment accordingly.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Satnarain Bansal, General & Family Physician
