What Causes Intestinal Yeast Infection?

I had an endoscopy today because I thought I had an ulcer in my esophagus. I had a gastric bypass 10 years ago. After the endoscopy, my doctor told me I had a yeast infection and put me on Flaconazole 100 mg tab 1 time daily for 20 days. I don t understand what can happen from this infection. What do I do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Yeast infection on the gut is not very serious. This would heal with the antifungal drug which is already advised to you. However, extensive yeast infection in the gut does not occur commonly in people with normal immunity (defense system of the body). So you should talk to your doctor if the infection was extensive he may need to do some test to check your immunity. Otherwise, by itself, it will be healed with the given drug.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman,
