What Causes Intolerance To Heat?

I am being work-up for MS. I have 3 lesions on the brain and I have had a spinal tap done and awaiting results. I have not had an MRI of the spine. I have had a ACDF. If I had a MRI would the plating distort the images and not show spinal lesions. I have a huge problem with heat intolerance. When I get hot my symptoms get worse and my feet turn red. Is this normal in MS patients? One I cool down they return to their normal color.

Hello,

I would explain that the worsening of symptoms during heat is a known phenomena in MS patients also called Utoff phenomena. A spinal cord MRI should be done in all patients suspected for MS.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
