Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Involuntary Flexing Of The Legs At Night Leading To Discomfort?
My legs bother me mostly at night when I lay down to go to sleep. I feel like they are flexed or I notice that I am flexing them. I usually end up getting up and walking the floor. It happens in the day, but it doesn t last nearly as long. I stand up and then walk around and it passes. It is very uncomfortable and getting worse. I used to be able to take a warm shower or something and it would alleviate the issue. Now, heat doesn t alleviate it. I was wondering if vitamins would possibly help.
Very likely you are having restless leg syndrome which is characterized by an urge to move your legs when you are in bed and this may disrupt your sleep and be very uncomfortable for the patient.
Generally it is not dangerous and there is no specific cause of it but there are medications that might help patients feel better. Ropinirole, Pramipexole, Gabapentine and some other medications have been tried and are found helpful but you will need to have a check with your doctor first, confirm the diagnosis and have the proper treatment.
Vitamins are not found to be helpful to treat restless leg syndrome.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Antoneta Zotaj,
