What Causes Involuntary Gasping While Talking?

when I am sitting quietly if I start to talk I will have involuntary gasps. My doctor and I have discussed this in the past. I can t remember if he said this was due to the anxiety I suffer from or if It is from the acid reflux. I just want to know the cause please.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Involuntary gasping can be due to acid reflux, stress or anxiety as already explained by your PCP. It can also be due to some allergy (pollen, food, uneasy situation, etc.), developing asthma, lung dysfunction (emphysema) or developing coronary artery disease.
Take antacids, Pantoprazole, you will get relieved of acid reflux. However, you should get Lipid function tests done to rule out any developing cardiac problem. Stay away from addictions if any.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K.
