What Causes Iron Deficiency Anemia In An Infant?
In a 9 month old with suspected iron deficiency anemia, hemoglobin level of 9, then not counting the CBC which has been done, which should we order first, ferritin level or serum iron with tibc??? It is a board question. Thought ferritin b/c earlier detection of iron decrease. What do you think???

if there is history of eating objects like soil, called pica...have high association with iron deficiency anemia,. other causes may be thalesemia or sickle cell anemia
U should do first CBC with PS, followed by serum iron profile having s.ferritin , S.iron, TIBC...
START UR CHILD ON SYP IRON 5-8 Mg/kg for a day for 3 months.
