Hello! I have been investigating the root cause of my daughter's iron deficiency anemia. She has been found to have had pinworms and a few other infections like klibsiela and blasto which we have dealt with, but we are not sure if we have erradicated them as we are not yet able to retest. We were never able to test for bleeds because we were started on iron supplements before I found out that we could not test for occult blood after supplementing. Anyway, her platelets were high and her hemoglobin extremely low when we discovered the anemia in february but her hemoglobin came up to the reference range with supplementation and platelets came down into the reference range and her iron and ferritin came up, but mpv remained low. We discontinued the supplemental iron to see if we could maintain with diet and if the root cause was taken care of but within 4 weeks her iron and ferritin plummeted again. There are currently no additional flags on her cbc except for low ferritin, low iron and high mpv - so my question is, is there anything we should investigate that that combination may be indicitive of? I do not expect you to diagnose, but I thank you for any leads you may be able to give me!!! Warmly, Carla.
