What Causes Irregular And Heavy Menstrual Cycles Post A Tubal Ligation?
I had a csection 5 months ago on the 8th of this month... And I had my tubes tied... My period have been really off, the last one I had was 2 weeks ago and it wad normal.... I m 3 days into this one its not normal I m extremely heavy when I m normally not, and in the past two hours I ve been thru 3 pads pretty saturated not soaked but saturated and I just started passing quarter sized clouds?
Tubal ligation by itself does not cause any irregularities in the menstrual cycle.
However, a more likely cause is that you are just out of delivery and are presumably breast feeding youe child. Breast feeding releases certain hormones which prevent the normal menstrual cycle to start - hence most commonly there are no periods or less commonly irregular bleeding.
Since the bleeding that you are experiencing is quite severe, I suggest you consider visiting your gynaecologist if the bleeding does not stop by itself in 2-3 days - as prolonged severe bleeding can cause blood loss significant enough to cause dizziness and falls. This assumes importance especially as you are in the post delivery phase and Iron requirement by the body is high.
Consume a healthy diet rich in iron like green leafy vegetables, nuts and liver.
Hope this helps.
Regards, Dr Geeta
