General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
HI, Thanks for asking.I understand your concern. After starting the menses ( menarche).. the periods tend to be irregular in beginning( for about a year)because the hormonal cycle of menstruation is yet to be established.. & there is hormonal imbalance. But once regular, it can not get irregular without a cause. * You are 18 now, when was your 1st menses? if it was few months before.. please don't worry.. but exclude pregnancy & be protected with contraception in future. * but if you are worried about delay after attainning regular periods & you are sexually active it is better to - -Exclude pregnancy by home pregnancy test after 8 days delay in menses. - Get Usg pelvis done to exclude PCOD as a cause of the irregularity & get it treated if it's the cause. Thanks.
