What Causes Irregular Brown Menstrual Bleeding Of A 12 Year Old?
My daughter is 12 years old and started her period on January 5th of this year. Since that day she has either had brownish blood or red blood that hasn t seemed to stop except for maybe a couple days then comes back. Should I be concerned or is this normal? She does not seem to be tired or anything like that but she does have spherocytosis and has has her spleen removed. Does that make a difference?
The condition which you explained is seen in some girls soon after the starting of periods, which is usually due to hormonal imbalance. Its not alarming as such. But, any girl with these issues should undergo basic blood tests including Complete blood count, thyroid levels, insulin levels, and the like and an ultrasound scan of abdomen, to rule out any abnormality.
And as your daughter is post splenectomy patient, you should give some extra importance. Splenectomy may lead to some kind of bleeding disorder in few individuals. But, as your daughter is otherwise healthy and not feeling weak or so, there is nothing to worry.
But, get the tests done, to be on the safer side.
