My cardiologist wants me to take an anticoagulant. I had a very very mild stroke about 2 1/2 yrs. ago and have been taking 81 mg. aspirin. The implanted heart monitor that I have recently showed irregularities in my heartbeat (it was been there almost two years). I am very reluctant to take any of these drugs. My late husband had to take warfarin for several years and it was a nightmare -- it rules your life. No disrespect to the medical profession but I frankly often trust the findings of Worst Pills, Best Pills over physician recommendations. WPBP has a whole staff who can check on many reports -- a physician s workload likely makes that difficult. WPBP recommends AGAINST newer anticoagulants -- for example, they believe that no one should ever use dabigatran and are not happy with apixaban, rivaroxaban, or edoxaban. So now what? I can hardly believe that I may choose warfarin but the folks at WPBP feel that because it has been around for so long, it s attributes are very well known. Also it has an antidote, something that most of the newer drugs lack. Any advice?
