Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Irregular Heartbeat While Having Mitral Valve Prolapse?
I have MVP but until now have not experienced what has been occurring lately. Some mornings upon waking I am having PAT and sometimes wildly irregular heartbeat. I am a very anxious person because my husband drinks a lot ,is verbally abusive and puts us under a lot of financial stress. Lately I feel nervous a lot and am even afraid of reporting my symptoms to my physician. Should I dismiss these symptoms or be concerned?
MVP is common and most of the times not serious. Though it can cause palpitations and sometimes may cause heart rhythm abnormalities. So it's important to be assessed. We may prescribe certain medicines like beta blockers that would control these symptoms.
MVP is also associated with anxiety, that also would be addressed. So don't panic but go to your Dr for assessment and drugs for MVP if needed.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman,
General & Family Physician
