What Causes Irregular Menstrual Bleeding Post Child Delivery?

Hello Doctor,My Wife and I had a baby just 3 months before. her bleeding stopped after a month (around 24th October) and last menstruation was on 21st November (she used to get periods regularly in 28 days gap).My question is after pregnancy the frequency of menstruation changes? we are panicking because it is more that 30 days and she is not getting menstruation, we are afraid she might be pregnant.

I have gone through your Query & I really appreciate your concern about the problem you are facing.

As a physician I would like to comfort you that this type of menstrual irregularities are quite normal while breastfeeding. Periods tends to be irregular after childbirth upto 8-9 months. It is because of the hormonal changes that have been taking place in her body

So, I would like to tell you not to worry and give it some time and the periods will come back to normal 28 days cycle as the hormonal regulation in her body goes back to being normal.

The most important thing is that you should use extra protection like condoms if you are not planning to have a child soon. Because of irregular periods, there could be chances of unplanned pregnancy and just be careful about that.
