What Causes Irregular Menstruation Post Intake Of Emergency Contraceptive Pill?

Hi I had sex during my last period on July 9th (it was my second day). We had an accident with the condom and I took the morning after pill within 12 to 15 hours. My period then stopped for a few days then came back very heavy and lasted longer then usual. Now I am about 6 days late and freaking out. I took a pregnancy test and it came out negative. What should I do?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

For investigations of irregular menstruations, you may be asked for hormonal work up like FSH, LH, Oestrogen, Progesterone, Prolactin, etc.

Before hormonal check-up, you will be examined internally to find any organic disease like infection or cyst-Ultrasonography also will reveal a good amount of information regarding your internal organs (and even pregnancy also).

Avoid stress, take a healthy diet, drink plenty of water and do regular exercise.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
