General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
hi, Thanks for the query. I understand your concern. The irregular & prolonged menses after starting it for first time ( menarche) is common . It is due to immaturity of sex organs &that takes time in forming peculiar menstrual pattern. But every thing is set within a period of an year & periods then follow a regular pattern. The irregular periods you have can be due to hormonal problems like-PCOD/thyroid problem/ pituitary problems. To pin point the cause you need to undergo certain pathological tests like - Hormone assay/thyroid function test/Usg abdomen scan & detailed physical examination.Once the cause is found you can get specific treatment & get your cycles normalized. Thanks
