Hi, Doctor; I am taking care of an old lady 85 year. She is taking Carvedilol 50 mg. in the morning and Carvedilol 37.5 mg. between 6-7 p.m. she also is taking Enalapril 2.5 mg, in the morning. Her pulse still over 90 sometimes 115. What do you think about this? She is thinking of changing heart doctor? I just work for her but I worried very much.
Hi, A heart rate of 90 or over in an 85 year old should be investigated. There are a number of possible causes. One of the commoner causes in this age group would be atrial fibrillation. I suggest you advise her to see a doctor for assessment. Regards, Dr K A Pottinger
