What Causes Irregular Vaginal Bleeding While Trying To Conceive After An Abortion?
Hi. My issue is I want to become pregnant. Last year I had an abortion because my husband didn't want it. He is still not ready but I get a strong urge to get pregnant as I am also reaching 30 now. I have a copper T inserted last year right after my abortion. My periods started last month around the 11th of april and on 20th onwards I started having cramps and spotting. On the 22nd I had bleeding for 2 days not continous bleeding though..I wanted to know is there a possibility that I could be pregnant?
Yes there is a possibility you may be pregnant. With a Copper T IUD there are no hormones so in theory ovulation continues as normal however the foreign object effect of the IUD can alter the process of conception and implantation. When a woman does become pregnant while having an IUD correctly placed there is an increased risk of the conceptus implanting outside the uterus most often in the ampullary portion of the fallopian tube. A non pregnant woman can have abnormal spotting or bleeding with a copper IUD but it is usually limited to the first 6 months after the IUD is placed. With the above information, taking a urine pregnancy test is probably the next best step but the results may be inaccurate for the next 3 weeks.
