What Causes Irritation And Discomfort In The Throat After Swallowing A Capsule?
I swallowed an anti biotic capsule without water and I could feel it didn t go all the way down. It was stuck there even after i finally got water. Now every time I swallow I have a dull pain in what I believe to be the lower esophagus. In my chest to the right side between by breast. Could that capsule have desolved where it got stuck and caused this now problem by irritaying my esphagus
The pill might have caused local trauma in the esophagus and even if it is already passed in the stomach might give you the feeling it is there for a while. Also if the pill dissolves in the esophagus it might cause local irrigation and cause you discomfort.
To help you can take omeprazole and this will help reduce the acid reflux in the area that is already hurt and will help healing. If you notice no improvement with the use of omeprazole for 4-5 days or notice any worsening, please call your doctor.
I hope I have answered to your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care.

Antoneta Zotaj,
