What Causes Irritation In Eye When Contacts Are Taken Out?

When I take my contacts out it feels as though there is a cut or something stuck up under my eyelid, but when my contacts are in, everything is fine and my eye does not hurt at all. It hurts to blink when my contact is out but it does not seem to be anything in there like a folded contact because I ve rinsed thoroughly with saline solution and have tried to massage my eye.

Hello,

You are suffering from eye irritation after taking off the contact lens. There are various causes for eye irritation like wearing the lens more than the recommended time. Following the instructions for your set of contacts is imperative for optimal eye health. Never use your contacts for longer than the instructions outlined, your eyes will react if you do so.

Do not extend the lifespan of your contacts to save money, this can lead to infection. Always replace old contacts once you hit their expiration dates. It can be due to allergic reaction to dust and other pollutants that can stick to your contact lenses. Not only can this dry out your eyes, but it can also scratch them. To avoid this, you are advised to disinfect your lenses every day. Flush your eyes with drops (refresh tear drops to lubricate eyes) prior to wearing your contacts will soothe irritation.

Always keep artificial tear drops to avoid dry eyes. During insertion of your contact lens be careful, always insert it as instructed. Going wrong will hurt your eyes. Never wear ill fitting lens. Get clinically examined by an eye specialist if you have an eye infection. Do not linger for long.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello,

Irritation in eye while wearing contact lenses could be due to infection and / or inflammation in the eye. I suggest you to discontinue wearing contact lenses for some days and use lubricants. If the problem does not resolve within 1-2 days, you need to consult your ophthalmologist for clinical assessment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
