What Causes Irritation In The Tongue And Throat After Taking Antibiotics?
I ve recently been experiencing prickly sensation on the back of my tongue and throat. It started after being on antibiotics for an ear infection. My doctor swabbed my tongue and it came back positive for thrush. I was then placed on Nystatin for several weeks. While on it the symptoms disappeared but once done it came back. After two rounds of Nystatin and now a round of pills, it s still bothering me. Could it be a stubborn form of thrush? Any other options to get rid of it?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of irritation in the tongue and throat after taking antibiotics which could be due to fungal infection and it could be due to pharyngitis.
Need not to worry. I would suggest you to drink plenty of fluids. Take sugar free candies to stimulate salivary flow. Use mouthwash containing biotene as it will not dry your cavity. Visit oral physician once and get complete examination done and start treatment accordingly. You should use tongue scrapper to maintain hygiene. Go for biopsy of lesion as well. Use antibiotics such as Azithromycin to prevent from infection.
Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
