What Causes Irritation In Vagina During 38 Weeks Pregnancy?

I'm 38 weeks pregnant and yesterday I had a little spotting so I called my clinic and they said that this was the start of labor and I should expect my baby within a couple of days but today my vagina does not feel normal and is kind of irritant. What could this be?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
I understand your concern.
As the head of baby descends down in late 9th month, the mouth of uterus is pushed, starts opening which can cause slight bleeding . this can follow delivery in following few days.Usually it is associated with mild labor pains.
But if the vagina is irritated, it suggests infection..
- You should try to keep the area clean/ dry,
- Apply Flucanozole ointment locally.
- If it does not respond, you need your gynecologist to check & advise specific treatment( both local / oral)before onset of delivery.
Thanks.
