What Causes Itchiness In The Eyes While On Topomax For Nerve Damage?

I recently started taking topomax for nerve damage from chemotheraphy. I have been doing great on it the only issue is my eyes have been scratchy I do not know if that is alleregys or from the medicine? What do you think. I also wanted to know how long it will take to start working on the numbmess and pain? Thank you Jaklien Karar

Hi,

Itchiness and eye redness in some cases are some of the described side effects of topomax. It may be the cause of your symptoms. However, if any vision problems or pain/discharges, you see an Ophthalmologist for evaluation. Topomax is an anti-convulsant that may be used to treat seizures and also for neurologic pains/very intense pain.

If you have had no improvement on your symptoms while on this drug, you may see your doctor for a dose adjustment or a change. Your doctor may also place you on a multi vitamin and anti oxidant combination like renerve plus and also consider physiotherapy.
