What Causes Itchiness In The Throat Despite Taking Zantac And Prilosec?

I have a scratchy feeling in my throat for over a month. The ENT doctor said it was acid reflex even even though I do not have hart burns at all. For the past 2 weeks I have been on the diet and taking Zantac and Prilosec, however there is no improvement. Should I ask for second opinion?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Itchiness or scratchy feeling in the throat is indicative that your immune system is reacting to allergies (dander, dust, pollen, mite, smoke, etc) or some infection like Pharyngitis.

You can take antihistamines, Levocetirizine, once daily for 5-7 days. Do warm saline gargle, or you can use Listerine water for gargling. Do it twice or thrice daily.

Get your throat physically examined, get a throat swab test done for you may need a course of antibiotics. For pain take Acetaminophen(Tylenol).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
