Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I just started to take Cipralex (escitalopram) 5 days ago (5mg to start) and last night I began to feel itchy on my back mainly, but it is an odd feeling where I couldnt actually itch it and satisfy the feeling. I'm slightly worried that I'm having an allergic reaction to the medication? I'm still itchy today somewhat.
hi, Itch due to escitalopram is generally due to allergy or a side effect of the drug. in either case, if the symptom persists as long as you take the drug, you need to stop the drug and go for alternative class of antidepressants. You may try to keep your skin moist by applying vaseline or other emoluents and see the response. If it doesn't help, changing the drug is the best option. hope this helped.
