What Causes Itching After Taking Clindamycin?

I have been on the anti-biotic clindamycin for 2 weeks and yesterday my hands started itchy. Is this a common reaction and is there anything I can do to relief this. I had an infection in my gum and the dentist did surgery and I go back tomorrow to remove the stitches and I will probably have to stay on an antibiotic.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you can either have a delyaed allergic reaction to the antibiotic Cindamycin given to you leading to itching in hands as it is one of the common presentation of allergy to antibiotic that leads to rashes and itching..
While it can also be due to Contact Dermatitis that can occur due to allergic reaction to any soap, detergent, cosmetic creams etc..
You should also immediately stop taking the antibiotics and consult your treating physician and get evaluated and he can give you oral anti allergics like Levocetrizine for relief..
You can also be advised to apply steroid ointment over the itchy aras..
Doing cool compresses and applying Calamine lotion can also help..
Get a blood test done to rule out the cause of allergic reaction and avoid future exposure to the same..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
