What Causes Itching And Burning Spots All Over The Body?

I have been experiencing severe itching/burining over a good part of my body for several weeks. About 6 weeks ago I had a uti and was given macrobid for the infection. The infection cleared up, but about a week after finishing the drug, I began experiencing severe itching/burning- no rash. I began taking Benadry (3-4 per day) and went back to the doctor. Was treated with a shot and given a steroid pack, and completed it about a week ago. I am still miserable most of the time. Earlier this week, I awoke itching severely and feeling that I needed medical treatment. Took 2 Benadryl and my husband took me to the ER, BUT BY THE TIME WE ARRIVED, the symptoms had eased. After an examination, was told that I have sinus and They suggested that I see an an allergist. Today, the itching is mainly on my scalp, but also notice in my eyes and random spots on my body.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Itching in the body may be due to various causes, you are suggested to wash all your clothes, bed sheets in hot water & savlon or dettol.

Either change the mattress on which you sleep or put in in sunlight. Make sure there are no bugs.

Take non sedating antihistamines, once daily for 5 days. Take warm showers & do not share your toiltries, avoid sex for a couple of days.

You can apply Ascabiol lotion, in the areas affected, leave it for 45-50 minutes & then take shower. Repeat after 15 days. It will reduce if its due to scabies.

If you are sexually active & have multiple partners you should get STD tests done to stay on the safer side. If tests are positive, you may need antivirals/antibiotics.

However, you are suggested to get examined by a dermatologist & get treated at the ealiest.

Hope I have answered your queries. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K
