What Causes Itching And Inflammation In The Toes?

A week ago my left Big toe became itchy. Removed polish and cleaned under the nail with typical pedicure tools. There was dirt from the yard under the nail , I had worked in the yard the past week a few days with flip flops. Today the toe skin is red on the side and becoming painful. Yesterday I used rubbing alchohol attempting to kill anything under the nail. But today it s worse. Definitely inflammed and slightly throbbing... ideas?

Hi,
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.com.

I had gone through your question I can understand your concern about toe nail infection.

As per your history it seems to me the bacterial or fungal infection, most probably the fungal one if you had worked in moist environment.

You need to apply the antifungal or anti bacterial local cream.
In case there is pus formation and associated fever and swelling you need to take antibiotics like levofloxicin but only after consultation with your doctor.

Hope my answer will help you and write us back in case you feel any further help required.

Regards
Dr Muzaffer Hussain Parray.
