What Causes Itching And Inflammation On The Surgical Sutures?

Hello, I had a small nothing removed by a dermatologist, who then used two stitches to close the wound. The stitches were removed more than two weeks ago. However, just recently, the area, which had healed nicely, has now started to itch and become inflamed. Why is this and what is going on?

Hi,

As per your complain it seems that you have re-infection around the suture site leading to itching and inflammation. I would suggest you to consult with your treating Surgeon and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation is commonly sufficient for diagnosis.

You can be advised a course of topical antibiotic ointment and numbing gel. You can also be given Oral antibiotics and anti inflammatory painkillers. Clean the area with antiseptic solution. Doing cool compresses over the inflamed area will also help.

Hope this information helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thanks and regards,
Dr. Honey Nandwani Arora
