What Causes Itching And Pain In The Feet After A Pedicure?

I had a pedicure today and the technician gave me an intense foot rub. Couple of hours later, my arches (both) started itching and hurt when I stand up (more pain if barefoot). Both areas feel swollen, like they have been packed with something. Gout?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello, my name is Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi. I understand your concern.
Because personal hygiene may not be maintained in a professional salon because of the large number of clients they cater to, it is possible that bacterial or fungal foot problems can occur.
Some advices that I can give to you are:
1)ointments and creams for toenail fungus
2) oral medication such as terbinafine or itraconazole, if OTC methods do not work. You will have to take the pills for up to 12 weeks, but it will take longer for a complete cure because your nail must grow out completely to eliminate all signs of the fungus.
3)after pedicure wash your feet with an antibacterial soap.
Hope my answer was helpful, if you have any other questions I'll be glad to help, thanks!
