What Causes Itching And Red Spots On The Hands After Exposure To Sunlight?

Hi Dear doctors, My mother is 59 years old. She always is itching her hands. Also, she has red color spots on her hands. This reddish process increases when she exposes in front of sun. It should be noted that my mother for sometimes used ginger for her rheumatism. We do not know what is the causes. Please help us. Thanks a lot for your helps in advance

Hi,

It can be due to photosensitivity which is related to autoimmune conditions like SLE etc if rheumatism isn't strictly diagnosed to be due to rheumatoid arthritis. She may need to get a dermatologist review as well as a rheumatologist review. Meanwhile using topical steroid and sun block creams at the hands alongside oral anti histamines like Cetirizine or Loratidine for itching may be helpful.
