What Causes Itching And Redness On The Face?

My 84 year old mother has white hair starting to grow black and has redness in her face mainly around the nose which her family doctor has told her was rosacea, but the itchiness is overwhelming for her. She often has to put cold compresses because the nonstop itchiness wakes her. I sent her some fucidic acid cream which has tremendously helped her but she is wondering what causes this itchiness since rosacea isn t suppose to be so itchy. Would you have any idea what is the cause of this itchy redness on her face and why does her white hair suddenly started to grow black? Thank you for your prompt response ... Sincerely, Chantal Gagnon B.Sc., R.D.H.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms seem to be related to rosacea.

I recommend using hydrocortisone cream for local application.

I also recommend using antihistamines such as Zyrtec which is an over the counter medication.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi,
