What Causes Itching And Sharp Pain At The Spot On Back?

There is a spot on my upper left side of my back that itches most of the time...like a mosquito bite. Lately, I get a very sharp shooting pain in the same spot. It only lasts for a second or two, but is a 10 . Any ideas what could be causing this? I have made an appt with my primary care physician. I want to ask the right questions. Appreciate any input.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Welcome to HCM.
I have read your history carefully.
This kind of unilateral sharp pain is seen just before development of herpes lesions. You might develop fluid filled blisters and rash on the site of pain in a day or two. If this happens then you will have to have a course of antiviral like acyclovir for 5-7 days.
Another possibility is of bug bite. But in this, you should have some local redness with enduration.
Hope this will be helpful.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
Take care.
