Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Itching And Swelling On The Small Finger After An Insect Bite?
I got a bite on my pinky finger about 2 days ago- it was super itchy and I rubbed it too much. Not sure what caused the bite. Yesterday the site looked quite irritated. The redness around the spot was dark but the rest of the finger looked fine. I put some antibacterial ointment on it today and covered it with a band aid. Now the lower portion of my finger is a bit swollen and it s itchy. I m curious if I should head to a hospital or not as I m in Shanghai on holiday from Canada. Should I wait a few more days?
The most important thing is to watch for signs of infection such as pus secretion fever or swelling of extremity and in this case, you should see doctor who will probably prescribe antibiotics.
Otherwise, you need some kind of antihistaminic ointment Also Apply an ice pack to a bite or sting for 15 to 20 minutes once an hour for the first 6 hours.
It is important not to scratch or manipulate the wound to prevent infection. You may cover the wound with a thin layer of petroleum jelly, such as Vaseline, and a nonstick bandage.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
