What Causes Itching At Blood Withdrawal Site?

I have routine bloodwork every 12 weeks due to RA medication. They always take it from the same place. The last time it was drawn was about 3 wks ago. Tonight I had an itch in the area where they take it and when I went to scratch it, it started to bleed and looks almost like a brush burn. Has the area been used too many times; is the skin getting thin?

Hi,

If itching is localized to the withdrawal site. There are many reasons. I mean allergic reactions are possible in many ways. Sometimes it could be an allergic reaction to alcohol prep which is used to wipe the skin or it could be an allergic to the band aid used after blood withdrawal.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
