What Causes Itching Followed By Brown Scaly Growth On Upper Part Of Body?

I have places on my upper body that itch, develop a bump and then a brown scaly crust grows and spreads. I have had some frozen at the dermatolagist but so many develop I can't keep up with them. Is this a fungus and can a medicine taken internally stop this.
