What Causes Itching In Genital And Swollen Penis After An Unprotected Sex?

Hi doctor, I received unprotected oral sex from a commercial sex worker 2 weeks ago. I m uncircumcised. 7 days ago I had some discharge from penis, which cleared after taking doxymycin for a week. 5 days ago I started experiencing transient itching in the genital area, but not on the glans penis. It lasts a few seconds, and then goes. 3 days ago I pulled back my foreskin and see that the half of my glans penis closer to the shaft is red and dry and seems slightly swollen. What do you think I have? Could it be herpes or HPV or the beginning of genital warts? Please help.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I think you are having inflammation of glans we call it as a balanitis. It is not herpes or HPV as you are thinking. You just keep your glans dry as much as possible. Don't use water or soap to clean it. Use emollient for having soothing effect on glans. Always use condom whenever having sex with commercial sex workers.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pramod Kokare, General & Family Physician
