Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi doctor. I m a female, experiencing continuous itching and there are many raised rashes like ringworm infections (not sure) in groin area, few on thigh, with irresistible itching specially at night. I m feeling like it s spreading with itching more. I used candid powder and cocunut oil and tea tree oil as well but nothing seemed effective. Please advice some effective otc treatment if you can guess what my actual problem is.
This is most likely a candida infection of the skin. You will have to apply a topical antifungal like clotrimazole cream and take an antihistamine eg cetirizine 10mg at night to help with the itchiness.
If the rash is spreading or is extensive, you will have to take an oral anti fungal as well eg fluconazole tablets or itraconazole. Please visit your doctor for a prescription once contraindications to these drugs are ruled out.
Do test for diabetes. Although this type of skin infection is common in humid conditions, it can be a sign of undiagnosed diabetes.
Hope this helps.
