What Causes Itching In The Hemorrhoids After Taking Probiotics?

I took probiotics to correct ph balance re my gyn. s suggestions and after 5-6 days I began to have extremely large and very light colored BM. Having at least two a day my very minor hemnrhoids began to burn and itch. I stopped the probiotics after about 2weeks and am still having huge bms and bruning itch hemmrhoids. My doc. suggsted stool softner. However I am not constipated but have almost continous intestinal gas. Any suggestions as to the cause and treatment? very uncomfortable hThis has been

Hello,

The hemorrhoids can cause the itchiness and burning even without any other irritating factor. In your case the itchiness might be due to the probiotics but the fact that it is not better after stopping them for 2 weeks it might mean that it might be just related to the hemorrhoids.

I would recommend you to take the treatment that the doctor has recommended, even though you do not feel constipated, treatment for hemorrhoids should include drugs to soften the stools. Also local treatment with creams that contain steroids applied 1-2 times a day in the anal area might help with the irritation and the itch.
