What Causes Itching Of Breast After Chemo Treatment?

I had breast cancer in 2008. Had chemo and radiation along with a lumpectomy. For about the past 3 or 4 months, my breast has been itching to the point of bleeding because I can't stop scratching. It is also very very tender. I have regular mammograms and they have been normal which is not comforting to me because my tumor did not show up on mammogram or ultrasound. Should I be concerned about this itching?

OBGYN, Maternal and Fetal Medicine 's  Response
Hi,

Itching on the breast is common after chemotherapy, so there is nothing much to worry about. Topical antibiotics will be required.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sujoy S. Bhattacharjee, OBGYN, Maternal and Fetal Medicine
